Two pillars of hydration |
Whether the skin is dry or dehydrated will determine if it requires an emollient- or humectant-based formulation—or both: understanding the difference will help with selecting an appropriate hydrator. Dry skin lacks sebum, and can appear patchy and flaky, or feel rough or tight—emollients nourish, smooth and soften. Meanwhile, dehydrated skin is lacking in water and may appear dull—humectants offer moisture replenishment. |

Emollients are lipid-based ingredients that help support the skin’s barrier properties, ensuring it maintains optimal hydration. |

Humectants draw water to the skin’s surface, boosting moisture levels. |
