Dear [Name],
Spending just a few minutes in nature has a positive impact on our minds.1 In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, remember to make time for yourself in nature. Whether you’re going on a hike or just stepping out for some fresh air, it all counts.
We’ll see you out there, The AllTrails Team

| The science of forest bathing |
The term “shinrin-yoku” (forest bathing) was coined in 1982 by Tomohide Akiyama. It’s the practice of immersing your senses in nature for mental and physical health benefits.
It may sound a little woo-woo, but forest bathing is backed by science. Plants and trees release tiny particles called phytoncides, which protect them from insects and disease. When we breathe in these phytoncides, we reap the benefits.3

|
| How to practice forest bathing |
Forest bathing is about being fully immersed in your surroundings. You can try it while sitting down or even as you hike. Shaded trails with gentle grades are best.
Start by slowing your breath. Gradually tune into the sounds and smells around you. Then introduce how the air feels on your skin and how the ground feels beneath you. There’s no wrong way to do it! Just enjoy the feeling of calm.
