New Mexico has attracted its fair share of Brits; the archetype might be D.H. Lawrence, the Nottinghamshire-born novelist, poet, and essayist whose ashes now rest on the Kiowa Ranch, just outside of Taos. And yet nothing could be further from the forests of Nottingham, or the bonnie hills of Scotland, than the high desert mountains of Santa Fe. As for me, a Canadian-born New Yorker, I am getting used to this life. It suits our new apparel just fine.—PB-S
