When I started Best Made in 2009 I had no idea where it would all take me. But standing in my workshop back then, covered in sawdust and paint, I knew one thing for certain: the axe and I were meant to be.
The economy was crumbling, the news of the day brought dire headlines, and I was navigating a painful divorce. Yet deep down, I knew I'd be okay. After all, I had the axe—the oldest tool known to humankind, an iconic object from my childhoold, an emblem of resilience and fortitude.
Growing up on a small farm in Canada, and paddling the lakes of Algonquin Park, taught me this was an essential tool for survival. But even better—I could use an axe to build campfires, cook delicious meals, and bask in the glow with my friends and family.
Here we are, 16 years later and a lot of water under the bridge. I ended up losing Best Made, and with it the axe, and then—just when I least expected it—I got it all back. And so here we are, exactly one year since Best Made came roaring back to life. I am humbled by where it's taken me.
Afterall, it was meant to be.
Best,
PB-S
