Hi ,
A few weeks ago, I realized my husband and I hadn’t made eye contact after 8 PM in months.
We weren’t fighting. We were just… side-by-side, scrolling. Parallel lives in the same bed.
So we tried something simple: a little physical device called Helm. You tap it, and it blocks whatever apps you choose — social, news, email — but still lets your phone take calls. We put it on the nightstand.
Every night at 8, we tap it. No more silent scrolling. No more “just a sec.” Just quiet, uninterrupted time together.
The first night was awkward. By night three, we were playing cards. Week two, we were talking about things we hadn’t talked about in years.
This one tiny habit shift did more for our connection than any big talk ever did.
I wrote about what changed, and how we finally broke the “phones in bed” cycle:
Maybe it'll spark something for you too.
