Hey Team,
That was a quick one, huh?
Another calendar year has come to a close and whether you’re surrounded by loved ones with a drink in your hand or getting ready to hit the hay for an epic leg day, I hope you feel at peace with what you’ve done with the last 365 days.
Some of you have accomplished your greatest physical feat yet. Others have experienced impressive emotional growth. And more people than we like to acknowledge have spent a majority of the year white knuckling the guardrails in what's now been deemed their most challenging trip yet. Here’s the thing- all of it is worth celebrating.
You’re here. You made it. And you can build off successes from this year or start anew with a fresh perspective.
There’s a lot of hype around this day that we find ourselves in this very moment. “What’s your New Year’s resolution?”, you’ll be asked. “What are your 2024 goals?”
A lot of you will say “build muscle” or “lose weight”. Maybe you vow to sign up for your first 10k, give dry January a go or lay off the sweets a bit. With a solid plan and the mindset of striving to be disciplined, rather than motivated, many of you will achieve these goals by the time we have this convo one year from now.
But is that the best you can do?
Don’t get me wrong, any goal of bettering yourself and your health are whole heartedly noble goals, but what if you strayed outside the box when it comes to crafting this year’s resolution?
What if you focused on getting better sleep, even if that meant spending less time working out?
What if you tried lowering your stress levels, even if that means saying “no” more?
What if you denormalized social drinking altogether, even if that means feeling a bit uncomfortable?
What if you decide to tell someone how you really feel, even if you’re afraid of the outcome?
If my silly little letter sitting in your silly little inbox leaves you with one thing as we embark on a new adventure, let it serve as a reminder that you only get one chance at this thing. And as frightening as that can be to stop and acknowledge, think about how incredible it is to be able to reshape what that looks like whenever you want.
When the ball drops, the race to a better you begins. See you at the finish line.
From ours to yours, Happy New Year.
Until next week. 👋
