NICO WILLIAMS: AANIIN, I SEE YOUR LIGHT
→ Outdoor installation: May 31–October 2024; indoor installation: May 31–August 18, 2024
First Nations artist Nico Williams has transformed the Iris Cantor Plaza into a site of play and exploration!
Drawing on artwork from the Arts of the Americas collection and Anishinaabe culture, the installation’s title begins with “Aaniin.” This greeting means both “hello” and “I see your light” to Anishinaabe community members, whose ancestral homelands are around the Great Lakes region of Canada and the United States.
Williams’s prismatic beadwork designs and jingles on the walls surrounding the plaza draw upon traditional Anishinaabe geometries. Hear more about the process of creating these works from the artist on Bloomberg Connects.
Visit and interact with the installation all summer long! Don’t forget to head to the fifth floor to beat the heat and see original pieces from the series. ☀️
