Dear [Name],
Having two teenage boys active in sports, I’ve been filling up water bottles every morning for years before school. And the only frustration in getting my kids clean drinking water is the fact that we are always missing the caps to our water bottles. As I write this, I currently have six bottles and only two caps. I spend one minute every day finding missing caps. That’s my biggest frustration … unlike the millions of women and girls worldwide who will spend an estimated 200 million hours tomorrow, and every single day, collecting dirty water to drink.
I’ve spent the majority of my career fighting violence against women and children globally, and as the new president of charity: water, the transition to providing clean water has been seamless. Seamless because I care deeply for vulnerable women and girls, and because I care for them, I care about water. Drinking dirty water makes them sick. Collecting it takes them out of school and work. Walking hours a day puts them in danger on isolated paths. Water is the most basic need on the hierarchy of needs, and clean water truly changes everything for women and girls — their health, their safety, their opportunities in life.
And that’s why I love being a charity: water donor: It’s multiple strategic impacts rolled into one investment. There are many challenges in the world we haven’t figured out how to solve, but delivering clean, safe water isn’t one of them. charity: water has a unique solution for each water point — it's just a matter of how quickly we can get there.
What I’ve learned in the last nine months diving deep into our programs is that charity: water donors have built the most efficient model to get water to communities quickly and sustainably. Every year, charity: water donors send teams to concentrate on the areas of greatest need, collaborate with local partners on the ground, and build a comprehensive, sustainable system for years to come.
Today is the last day to give in 2024 — the last chance we have to bring clean water to as many people as possible before the clock strikes midnight. Will you join us? Your gift will ensure that more women and girls gain access to the clean water they deserve. As always, every penny will directly fund water projects for communities that desperately need them. There’s still time to make a year-end gift right now at charitywater.org.
As 2024 comes to a close, I’m filled with hope for a future where clean and safe water is a reality for everyone. Together, we’re turning hope into action. Thank you for being with us on this journey.
With gratitude,
Melissa
