As the new year unfolds I’m always reminded that foundational hair health is built through small, consistent habits that you can keep far past January. For me, air drying became one of the most important.
Air drying is about allowing your hair to embrace its natural rhythm and texture—its unique personality, if you will. It’s about letting go of the idea that it needs to look like a blowout (or what we’ve been conditioned to see as “perfect hair”) and learning to love it just as it is. A great air dry starts in the shower with the right wash care products, followed by a post-wash routine. Here’s my step-by-step air dry ritual that works for my wavy hair texture:
The Volumizing Shampoo & Hydrating Conditioner
Wash day always starts with a gentle cleanse and condition. I intentionally pair our volumizing and hydrating formulas together to support scalp health and hydration without over-stripping or weighing down my hair.
The Towel
Don’t skip this step, trust me. Drying with a microfiber towel removes water gently without roughing up the cuticle, leaving you with softer strands than a traditional terry cloth towel will. Plus, it’ll cut your dry time in half.
The Leave-In Conditioner
Then comes a lightweight layer of hydration through the mid-lengths and ends, to detangle and smooth frizz. Leave-in conditioner is an air dry game-changer for all hair types and textures.
