Our beautiful, sparkling Roshni Mortar & Pestle returns next Saturday, January 24th! We called this bronze M&P “roshni”, which means light or brightness in Hindi, because along with allowing you to crush your spices with ease, it truly looks luminous on your kitchen counter!
Made in collaboration with sustainable cookware brand Green Heirloom, our Roshni M&P is made of kansa bronze, known for having a 4:1 ratio of tin and copper and being the purest form of bronze. The integrity of this material lends itself to a mortar and pestle meant to last lifetimes – an heirloom designed to be passed down for generations.
Use it to grind whole spices for salad dressings or sauces, or for freshly-made spice blends (lots of recipes coming your way next week)! If I were you, I’d crush up some toasted Nandini Coriander seeds to make Asha’s Upside Down Cake with Coriander and Orange. Though the recipe features stonefruit, it works great with in-season blood oranges, and plays up the coriander’s inherent citrusy, savory notes.
Whole spices, like coriander seeds, retain their volatile oils, so grinding them fresh means you’re getting all that juicy, concentrated flavor out of them.
