Hi friends!
This Saturday is Parent Mental Health Day and, as a new mom of an almost 3-month old, this has taken on a whoooole new meaning. I write this to you with my baby sleeping on my chest at this very moment. Doesn't get more real than this!
Before parenthood, whenever I was feeling stressed/anxious/overwhelmed (or all three) I always knew what I needed to do to get back on track. I'd call it my "Mental Health Recipe Card" and on it I have things like: journaling, therapy, taking a walk, calling a friend, yoga, and meditation. While unreasonable to fit them all in one day - plus that would be a wildly expensive therapy bill - but I'd just try to fit in one or two. Worked like a charm!
Add a newborn baby to the mix and my whole world has been turned upside down; in both good and challenging ways! She's incredible and my heart melts when she smiles at me, but at the same time it's made it a real challenge to keep a focus on my mental health.
Heck, I'm going on two days since my last shower...
But maybe that's it. It's a whole new world and just focusing on when I can get in that next shower will be a win. Maybe just taking a few deep breaths after I finish this email will be a win. Let it be the little things.
Parent or not... how are you holding up? What's something little you can do for yourself? Feel free to respond to this email and someone (super awesome) will write back! We're here to help.
Have a Doughp day,
