According to a class action trial that started this week, Flo, "a period tracking app shared users' highly sensitive information to third parties, including Meta, without permission." Users of the app "sued the company in 2021, claiming it improperly shared personal identifying information and private health data with third parties, including fellow defendants Facebook — now known as Meta — Google," and other ad analytics companies.
- We Caught 4 More States Sharing Personal Health Data With Big Tech [themarkup.org]
"State-run health care websites around the country, meant to provide a simple way to shop for insurance, have been quietly sending visitors’ sensitive health information to Google and social media companies," according to new findings from The Markup and CalMatters. "The data, including prescription drug names and dosages, was sent by web trackers on state exchanges set up under the Affordable Care Act to help Americans purchase health coverage."
- Bodyguards Using Fitness App Revealed Locations of Swedish Leaders

"An investigation by a Swedish newspaper revealed that bodyguards for Sweden’s royal family and Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson uploaded their workout routes to Strava, a fitness app that allows users to map and share their movements. The popular app has built a global social media community, but its users’ enthusiastic uploads have also raised questions about data privacy, especially among security and military personnel."
