“If you compare a cohort of people, let’s say in their sixties versus a cohort in their twenties, NAD+ is going down by roughly a factor of 50 percent,” he says. “It’s health and wellness, but with staying power,” journalist Scarlett Keddie writes.
“People are looking to optimize their routines, finesse their fitness and generally ask more of their products, because without the promise of healthy aging—or longevity—why do we puff and prime and prick ourselves daily?”
Keddie cites data from management consulting firm McKinsey to back up the shift from wellness to longevity. According to McKinsey, more than 60 percent of consumers surveyed in the U.S. considered it “very” or “extremely” important to buy products that support healthy aging and longevity.

Six Secrets to Better Sleep
|

|
It wasn’t long ago that a full night’s sleep was viewed as an unnecessary luxury. Now it’s rightly considered a best practice for longevity—and one that can be elusive, with one-third of U.S. adults reporting insufficient sleep, according to the CDC. The BBC enlisted Elysium Scientific Advisory Board member
Russell Foster, Ph.D., for his thoughts on getting optimal rest. There’s no better person to ask: Foster is a renowned sleep expert and serves as Professor of Circadian Neuroscience and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Oxford.
His tips offer a wealth of knowledge about how to sleep well, how to think about your sleep, and how to use sleep to your advantage. For instance, Foster reassures us not to worry about getting the
“mythical eight hours” or waking up during the night. (“The default state is not a single block of sleep but bimodal or polyphasic,” he says.) Didn’t get great sleep? Avoid difficult conversations, he advises, because we lose empathy and the ability to recognize social signals when we’re sleep-deprived. Salmon Is the “Perfect Fish”
|

|
|
Humans and our ancestors have been eating fish for at least two million years. We’ve been on to something: fish tastes delicious, it’s easy to prepare, and eating fish is associated with slower biological aging. But which fish is best from a nutritional standpoint? Salmon is the
“perfect fish,” according to Elysium Scientific Advisory Board member
Dariush Mozaffarian, M.D., Dr.P.H., in a recent article in
The New York Times.
“Fish is one of the few animal foods consistently linked to health benefits, and salmon is at the top of my list when I recommend fish to people,” he says. Salmon is packed with
DHA and EPA omega-3 fatty acids and other nutrients such as protein, selenium, and iodide. It also contains low levels of mercury polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), making it a safe choice to eat regularly.
Dr. Mozaffarian is a cardiologist, Jean Mayer Professor of Nutrition at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, Professor of Medicine at Tufts School of Medicine, attending physician at Tufts Medical Center, and director of the Food is Medicine Institute at Tufts University.
