Hey there,
There's something most vitamin brands aren't telling you about the folate in your kid's vitamin.
Folate is one of the most critical nutrients for your kid's growing brain and body. Among other things, it’s responsible for:
- Cell growth — how your kid's body builds and repairs itself.
- DNA production — the blueprint behind every function in their body.
- Neurotransmitters — the brain chemicals that control mood, focus, and emotional regulation.
In other words, it’s essential!
The problem is…not all folate is created equal.
There are two main types of folate used in multivitamins:
1. Folic Acid - the synthetic form of folate
Folic acid is what most multivitamins use because it's cheaper.
The problem is it has to be converted by the body before it can actually be used. And that conversion doesn't always happen the way it should. [1]
2. Methylfolate - the bioactive form of folate
Methylfolate, also known as 5-MTHF or L-methylfolate, is the bioactive form of folate. That means it's the form the body can use directly, with zero conversion required. [2]
It goes to work immediately, supporting brain development, mood regulation, and healthy cell growth from the moment it's absorbed.
This difference matters because over 40% of people carry a genetic variation called MTHFR that makes it difficult or impossible for their bodies to properly convert folic acid into a usable form.
That means nearly half of all kids taking a standard vitamin could be getting little to no benefit from one of the most important nutrients in the bottle.
Because their vitamin is using the wrong form.
First Day purposely uses methylfolate because it is directly absorbed and works for every kid, including the 40% whose bodies can't convert folic acid on their own.
No conversion required. No wasted ingredients. Just a form of folate their body actually recognizes and uses to support everything from brain function to emotional regulation to healthy development.
Small difference on the label. Big difference inside their body.
In good health,
