I don’t know about you, but I am starting to see back-to-school ads everywhere.
But don’t let that fool you: Now is the perfect time to plan summer travel on points and miles.
Summer 2026 travel, that is.
You might think it’s crazy to plan that far ahead, but I’ll let you in on a little secret: Airlines usually make seats available to book about 11 to 12 months in advance. That puts us exactly in time for summer 2026.
Here’s why this matters if you want to book with points and miles:
The start of the booking window is one of the best times to book business class seats with your points, because this is when you’ll find the most
award availability, often at saver rates. (It also increases at the last minute, but that’s harder for planning.)
That’s like getting Hamilton tickets before it transferred to Broadway.
If you’re trying to plan travel to Europe next summer for a family and want to get four seats in business class or even just two together, now is the time to start looking.
Just to be clear, this is only the booking sweet spot for points and miles travel, not for tickets you plan to pay for in cash. (We have a whole
article explaining when are the best times to book flights in cash.)
