Hello friends of Goodhood,
2024 marks our 17th year in business and we are still here weathering the vibe change. The past years have been exceptionally tough for small businesses of all kinds across the UK, and many have sadly not survived. We don’t believe the ability to survive the enormous strain since the years of lockdowns and then the wars and then the cost of living crisis have been evenly shared. When in the years following the early 20’s we discover that massive global corporations like Amazon lobbied for lockdowns we start to see a picture where small business have been at the hand of unseen forces that have worked against them. We believe that a flourishing economy is propelled by a variety of businesses small, medium and large. By their very nature they represent a natural decentralised approach that directly represents the beauty in our diversity. We all should think very carefully about the kind of world we are entering and whether we can do anything to be a small part of the changes we need to see.
We’ve thought a lot recently about Karma, responsible capitalism and general selfishness. Capitalism which we inherently support, is blighted with a sometimes psychopathic approach that not only wants to win at all costs but wants to destroy all other competition. This is a predatory and selfish approach that is propelled by unnecessary greed. We have tried so hard to work with partners over the years to develop genuine parallel economies where we can all benefit from our shared success. We hope that the oncoming years will be defined by a new appreciation of experience, curation and consciousness that will benefit the many rather than the few.
So this year was of course another rollercoaster. We decided we needed to put 10 years of dealing with a *&$%@# landlord behind us and jump ship to a new location. Somehow we managed to pull ourselves together and gather enough energy to move and get over to our new home. The wonderfully vibrant Hanbury Street in London. The space in the heart of the Brick Lane/Spitalfields area really encapsulates everything we envisaged when starting Goodhood. A diverse, high energy area surrounded by art, food, people and culture. We are so happy to call this our home now and if you haven’t had the opportunity to come down to the new location please do. It’s been wonderful to meet with old customers and new alike. We hope we have taken our learnings in shop and spacial design from the past 17 years onto a space that can truly become a third place to our community. Watch this space.
During this festive period we believe we have sourced the best products from a truly world leading selection of makers and shakers. Everything from the newest most innovative wellness products to the most advanced outerwear coming out of Japan. As always our selection supports emerging brands, forward thinking makers and fosters independent creativity. You can rest assured that the purchases you make with us go a long way to developing new economies and our ability to continue to support the wealth of design and product talent the world has on offer.
So from all of us at Goodhood, we wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas. It is with much gratitude to you, our customers, and to all that have helped us get through this year that we move onwards into 2025 with positivity and hope. We wish all of you a happy and prosperous new year ahead!
Much love,
Kyle, Jo and the Goodhood Team
