In the Special Operations Preparation Course (SOPC), we had three rules: Don’t be late, don’t be light, and don’t be last. To keep up, we’d take those heavy-duty boots to "Da Boot Shop" off-post. They’d strip the sole off, replace it with something closer to a sneaker, and cut out the heavy reinforcement. We called it the "SOPC Special."
We took the MACV-1 platform—the one we built for rucking off-road and off-trail—and stripped it down to the bare essentials. We used a thinner, more supple leather that’s still AR 670-1 compliant, removed the toe caps and heel counters, and used an even lighter midsole than the original.
The result? The most athletic shoe you can possibly make a boot. It’s light, it’s fast, and it’s stable enough to handle the trails around Fort Bragg or wherever you’re putting in the work.
"High speed. Low drag."
