Despite this being a kids’ toy, I’m not ashamed to admit I ordered these Pixy Cubes by PicassoTiles entirely for my own enjoyment. Some people have little zen gardens on their desks, others have a Newton's Cradle—I have colored blocks. I find absentmindedly making little patterns and designs to be a great alternative to reaching for my phone and doomscrolling yet again whenever I get bored. And, because they’re magnetized, not only is it hard to lose a block, you also get that satisfying feeling of connection whenever they slide into place next to each other. A nice little distraction to have around the house.

Last weekend, a group of us went to L&B Spumoni Gardens for a birthday dinner. After making our way through fried calamari, baked clams, roasted artichokes, mozzarella sticks, secret menu seafood salad, eggplant parm, half a sicilian pie, penne alla vodka, baked ziti, fettucini alfredo, sausage and broccoli rabe rigatoni, shrimp parm, chicken marsala, two sides of potato croquettes, and a half-dozen bottles of chianti, one genius member of our party decided he needed a giant glass of ice cold root beer to close everything out. After watching him take his first sip, the rest of us fell like dominoes: a round of root beers for the table it was. Since then, I’ve seen what feels like a non-stop barrage of root beer items, including a new Root Beer Float ice cream from Jeni’s, Trader Joe’s also new “Root Beer-Flavored Float Pieces”, and Shake Shack’s long-time menu offering but current number two “obsession,” the Root Beer Float. As another friend pointed out, it’s kind of crazy that we haven’t seen a fancified version of the classic float on a trendy NYC dessert menu yet. Then again, it’s probably only a matter of time. This is the summer of root beer.

The aforementioned dinner capped off a 21-day sprint through 10 other birthday celebrations (all of my friends are Geminis) and one college reunion so, suffice it to say, I woke up last Saturday exhausted. Thankfully it was raining, so after tidying the apartment, I ordered a Jersey Mike’s sandwich for delivery, ate half a Mango Lassi Indica gummy from Pure Beauty, and melted into my couch. Pure Beauty is generally known for the potency of their products and I’m a 2.5 to 5mg lady, so I was expecting to feel pretty high from half. Instead, I felt utterly relaxed. The high is as smooth as butter and honestly feels not dissimilar to Valium (if I’m allowed to say that). I loved it so much that I took the other half a couple hours later. Pure bliss.

As everybody knows, North Adams, MA is the Basel of America. That must be why the organizers behind the new Arrival Art Fair chose the Berkshires town as their home base. The four-day fair (which opened on Thursday and runs through tomorrow) also happens to be hosted by our friends at Tourists, the roadside hotel that’s worth a visit in its own right. Instead of traditional booths, galleries have taken over rooms to display the work of their respective artists, much like satellite fairs in Miami and other places over the years. You can find the full list of exhibitors here, and the programming schedule here. If you’re in the area today or tomorrow, what else could you possibly be doing with your time?

I just added this watercolor painting by artist Brianna Lance to my literal moodboard (it’s made of cork and lives above my desk), in the hopes that I might be able to someday afford one of her astonishingly intricate pieces.

Early voting for the New York City mayoral Democratic primary starts today. Our electoral turnout is consistently pathetic, so please do your part and vote.
