We’ve all seen sausage and broccoli rabe pasta served a million different ways—it’s a classic combo for a reason. But this recipe for a pesto-style sauce really elevates the dish to a whole other level. The instructions include blending a mixture of fennel, onion, and stock-glazed seared sausage in a food processor (a step I had to revisit a few times to ensure I read it correctly). The result is a super silky, almost slow-cooked bolognese-type texture that is worth whatever initial revulsion you might have at the directive. I’ve used the trick now in other dishes, and it’s a genuinely additive kitchen hack. Meat in a blender, who knew? -VvP

It’s incredibly hard to pick my favorite edible from Off hours—they’re all great and each has its own raison d'être. But if I had to choose one to recommend for simply having a good time and forgetting about whatever ails you (or the world), it’d be their Euphoric Watermelon Lemonade gummies. The 10mg of hemp-derived THC and 4mg of CBG per piece ensures a quality and upbeat experience, and not for nothing, they taste great. -DW

The Living Museum at Fierman Gallery

“Would van Gogh have been a great artist if he would not have been mentally ill?” asks Dr. Janos Marton, co-founder of The Living Museum. The Queens art studio is dedicated to presenting the work of patients at the nearby Creedmoor Psychiatric Center, making it the largest collection of outsider art in the country. A selection of these works can now be found at the FIERMAN Gallery in Chinatown, where a group show of paintings, drawings, collages, and sculptures from nearly 20 artists is on display. The pieces and presentation will change over the course of the show’s run through March 2nd, making this an ever-evolving exhibition of unique works from artists you’re unlikely to see anywhere else (well, except The Living Museum itself). I love the concept behind this and look forward to dropping in this week. -DW

Pre-orders are open for How to Eat Weed and Have a Good Time by edibles maker, TV personality, and cannabis celebrity Vanessa Lavorato. Lavorato, who previously starred in Vice’s Bong Appetite and now runs The Edibles Club, has been a fixture on the weed scene for well over a decade. I’m personally not the biggest fan of cooking with weed, instead preferring to eat regular food before, during, and/or after consuming cannabis in a more straightforward form, but if there’s one person who can convince me otherwise, it’s Lavorato. You can find out more about her book here, and if you want to learn more about the creator herself, you can read our old Conversation with her here. -DW

This curated collection of shells, intergenerational interviews, written materials, and embroidered phrases about coding opens for one night only this Thursday, January 30th at 138 Eldridge. Shells, by Rachael Yaeger, weaves together the digital and analogue frameworks that constitute the world in which we live as a reflection on how both our family histories and surroundings inform who we become. All proceeds from the show will be donated to Sierra Club. -VvP
