Every ‘I hate brainrot Halloween, what do you mean you’re…’ costume idea you’ll ever need, guaranteed. —Alex Pappademas, culture editor |

It’s Friday, it’s Halloween, and if that second part is news to you, we’ve got you covered. We do not support going no-costume this season—except if you’re staying home and watching something from our many definitively ranked lists of witch movies, zombie movies, streamable horror films, or Halloween movies that are actually set on Halloween.
Also this week: We smoked one with outgoing New York mayor Eric Adams and alerted him to the existence of Dimes Square. We talked to TrueAnon’s Brace Belden, Liz Franczak and Stephen “Yung Chomsky” Goldberg about how their podcast became a must-listen tonic for a conspiracy-pilled age, and (spoiler alert) broke down the shock ending of Bugonia, in which conspiracy nuts kidnap Emma Stone because they think she’s an alien.
We talked to Mike “Killer Mike” Render about acting opposite Ethan Hawke et al on FX’s comedy-noir series The Lowdown, which (unless you’re watching it) is the best show you’re not watching. We pondered the lessons of Deliver Me From Nowhere and what Disney passing on a Steven Soderbergh/Adam Driver Star Wars movie pitch means for the future of Star Wars.
We checked in with Saquon Barkley about his collab with indie watchmaker H. Moser & Cie; to High Pitchfork Era stalwarts Whitney about enduring, evolving, and continuing to live with your homie in Chicago even after you get married to a Danish lady; and to The Brutalist costume designer Kate Forbes about where you can get that sweater you saw Adrien Brody wear in that one dinner scene and have been lusting after ever since. Probably too late to secure one before trick or treating as Lazlo Toth, but there’s always next year. —AP |
