7 Products That Changed My Life In April |
I recently returned home from two weeks of travel between New York and Germany, where I was reporting a story about sleep (more on that soon!) Being in perpetual transit always seems to simplify the products I have available for my skin, hair, and hygiene routines in a way I find clarifying. It has long been a tradition of mine to tuck whatever Sephora samples I got from my last order into my handy Muji dopp kit for my next weekend away. And these days I do the same with a few choice products that I think are worth spending some up-close-and-personal time with. My takeaways from this last trip were simple: It’s better to pack fragrance-free products to avoid overwhelming your fellow travelers on a plane or train, it’s OK—maybe even healing—to give yourself a break from your retinol routine while you’re on the go, and intense lip hydration is a necessity before and after a flight. Below are a few things I found especially nourishing for a long voyage. They might just be helpful for your upcoming trip, too.
1. Humanrace Travel Kit |
The prospect of cobbling together a proper travel skincare routine is daunting. Heaped together, a bunch of miniature lotions and cleansers from the travel-size aisle at Target can create a larger-than-welcome haul that needs to be crammed into your toiletry bag. Which is why I appreciate the simplicity of this travel kit from Pharrell Williams’s Humanrace. It pairs the brand’s classy, toxin-conscious bestsellers—its gel cleanser, exfoliator, face cream, and body cream—into a suede-like travel roll that you can roll up and tuck into your carry-on. I found it especially useful after a red-eye, when I needed to refresh my face at the Hamburg airport. As a bonus, it’s fragrance-free, so you can avoid stinking up small public bathrooms.
2. Seed to Skin: The Recovery Cream |
It doesn’t matter how much water I drink when I’m flying, my skin always seems to wither under the de-humidified environment of the pressurized metal tube that is an airplane. That’s one of the reasons I lay off my retinol when I travel. It’s also why I reach for especially nourishing formulas like The Recovery Cream. This new release from Seed to Skin—an Italian brand out of Borgo Santo Pietro with a cult following that prioritizes ethically-sourced, toxin-free ingredients—is incredibly rich, and formulated to strengthen your skin barrier and improve smoothness and tone. It went a long way in restoring my dried out skin. I should also note that their The Cure cream is a lighter, everyday option that does wonders for fine lines and elasticity. They even have a version of it formulated specifically for men to counteract razor burn.
