🫶 10 Things We Loved in 2024
TLDR:
2024 was a year of undeniable change across the fashion and
footwear landscape. More than a few landmark shifts influenced and
directed the culture Hypebeast has spent almost two decades reporting on
in 2024.
Why
It Matters: Lagging innovation at footwear brands gave way to
a renewed focus on performance products, which influenced and evolved
the lifestyle footwear market. Basketball shoes, for the first time in
what feels like forever became interesting again thanks to new signature
lines, clever, creative designs and fantastic marketing campaigns.
Fashion and entertainment became entwined in an entirely new way, and
female athletes finally started to get the flowers they’ve long deserved
from the fashion world, among several other goings-on, including
Pharrell being literally inescapable. And the soundtrack to it all? A
hyperpop album that spawned the year’s most inescapable word and
influenced both behavioral and sartorial choices.

🔥 Jackson Wang Can’t Be Stopped
TLDR:
Talent, training, and an unapologetic work ethic made Jackson
Wang into a superstar. Now, he’s the newest global face of Nike and
Jordan Brand.
Why
It Matters: “I’m at a point in my life where I’m ready to
share a new form of energy,” says Jackson Wang, reclining in his
dressing room amid a plethora of Nike and Jordan designs, including a
pair of custom Nike x Cartier Dunks that he created for Kinjaz, his crew
of creatives and artists. As a musician, producer, and designer himself,
Wang is no stranger to channeling different creative energies, but he’s
ready for a fresh conduit: his just-announced partnership with Nike and
Jordan Brand. “Success is just a bonus,” Wang says of his winning
mindset — from his time as a Youth Olympic Games fencer to his current
standing as a multifaceted creative force. “You're born to fail, and the
more you fail, the more you get inspired. You just keep moving forward.
I think pursuing an athletic mindset, working in music, and being
constantly creative has motivated me to ‘just keep doing it.’ No sugar
coating.”

📈 Nike Unveils the 10 Most Popular SNKRS Releases of 2024
TLDR:
As the year comes to a close, Nike has published its list of the
most popular SNKRS drops of 2024. Jordan Brand enjoyed yet another
dominant year, bolstered by its collaborations with Travis Scott.
Why
It Matters: Per usual, Travis Scott’s AJ1 Low OGs drew in the
masses, taking first, second and fifth. His Jordan CJ1 T-Rexx “Sail”
landed in fourth, just behind the Air Jordan 4 “Bred Reimagined.” The
AJ4 also found itself in sixth with its “Industrial Blue” colorway. The
only two non-Jordan Brand drops in the top 10 came in seventh and eighth
place with the Kobe 6 Protro “Italian Camo” and Futura x Nike SB Dunk
Low respectively. From there, Trophy Room’s AJ1 Low OG “Rookie Card –
Away” and J Balvin’s Air Jordan 3 “Rio” rounded out the top release
list. Key takeaways from the data includes both Scott and the AJ1
present across 40% of the entries. The AJ4 was the only non-collab pair
from Jordan Brand to make the list, appearing in two colorways. Low-tops
performed best with six featured in the lineup and Nike only found
itself holding 20% of the spots, down from 50% the past two years.

🦾 Hiroshi Fujiwara Kicks Off Maserati’s Exclusive Fuoriserie By Series
TLDR:
In the latest chapter of their influential partnership, Maserati
and Hiroshi Fujiwara join forces to design the first-ever bespoke
supercar in the brand’s Fuoriserie By collection.
Why
It Matters: The new series is inspired by the Trident
customization program, similarly named Fuoriserie, which gives customers
the chance to tailor and modify their prospective supercars into a
one-of-a-kind automobile. In celebration of this service, Fuoriserie By
is set to invite past Maserati collaborators to put their spin on the
most famous models it has produced to date. For his exclusive edition,
Fujiwara takes on the #### Cielo as a base for his designs. With an
affinity for classic cars – as expressed to Hypebeast back in 2021 – the
Fragment founder presents two sleek and minimalist versions of the
supercar that simultaneously reflect the streetwear label’s iconic
aesthetic. The first subscribes to an all-over “Nero Vulcano” shade
while the second comes in a crisp “Bianco Audace” to create a yin-yang
combination.
