John here.
This weekend, I am competing in a Special Olympics track meet. I will throw the javelin and run the 100 meter and run in a relay race. I have been training. I am ready. My dad always cheers me on to run as fast as I can.
Special Olympics means so much to me. I have friends I have made through Special Olympics that I will have for the rest of my life. Special Olympics taught me sportsmanship, teamwork and grit. I learned that I can do hard things.
My mom Carol always believes in me. She came to every meet. She cheers the loudest. Mother’s Day is coming up and I want everyone to remember the moms who showed up for them. Who cheered the loudest. Who believed in you when you needed it most.
If you want to make your mom feel special this Mother’s Day, I think you know what to do. A pair of crazy socks. A Sock of the Month Club subscription. Something that makes her smile every time it arrives.
And if you know someone with autism who has a big dream, please share our Autism Can Do Scholarship with them. We believe everyone has ability. This scholarship is our way of proving it.
Good luck to all my Special Olympics friends competing this spring. Let’s go!
