John here. I voted because I always vote, I want my voice to be heard. People with differing abilities, people like me, are not always heard by the people in charge. It is really important that we vote so they pay attention.
A Story about Socks Bringing People Together
After Election Day, it seems like half the country is happy and half the country is sad. But worse, it seems like a lot of people are angry at each other. I don’t like that. Having Down syndrome has taught me is that we have more in common than we do different. If we focus on what we share, we will get along more.
I want to tell you a story. We heard from a customer. She is a grandma. Everyone in her family comes to her house for Thanksgiving. She said that some family members argue over politics and get mad at each other. She bought a pair of our Unity Socks for everyone in her family. She is going to put them in a basket and hand them out on Thanksgiving. She is going to remind her family that they have more in common than they do different. She is going to use our Unity Socks to bring her family together.
We have a mission to spread happiness. We want people to see what is good in everyone we meet. We want people to talk and not fight. That’s why we made our Unity Socks. We sent a pair of those socks to every member of Congress asking them to work together. We want to bring people together. Maybe you can help us and use our socks to bring people together. You are helping us spread happiness.
I hope you have a great weekend.
