AAPI Heritage Month always makes me think about my grandma.
She worked as a door-to-door saleswoman in Korea in the 70s and 80s, selling lotions and creams to the neighborhood ajummas (a term for middle-aged ladies in Korea) to support my mom and her four sisters when times were hard. She'd show up with a briefcase full of skincare products at a stranger's house, giving mini facials in their living room, building trust one face at a time.
Decades later, I ended up working at the same company she sold for, in the ecommerce division, selling the same lotions and creams to people online. When I realized that, I just sat with it for a second.
She's the one who would slather sunscreen on my face before I ran out the door.
She passed a few years ago. But even in her 80s, she had the most incredible skin I'd ever seen. I used to joke that she was the original KraveBeauty girl before I even knew what that meant.
KraveBeauty exists because of women like her. Women who understood that caring for your skin isn't vanity. It's a quiet act of love, passed down.
This month and every month, thank you for being part of something I know she would have sold door to door without hesitation. 😊
