| This week: We're dreaming big. | | | I'm imagining myself here | Every incredible adventure starts with a dream. An image that catches your attention and blossoms into a sentiment so enticing that you spend all night thinking about how it would feel to hike through those mountains and dive into that sea. I have this dream of spending a summer in Cádiz. And another of a coastal California train trip. The dream I love to revisit most often is the one where I travel for a year with my husband and kids. I debate transport options. I add and subtract countries and cities and wild places depending on what they are interested in. My colleague said something to me recently about a dream trip that she has: “I’m okay waiting ten years for it.” Me too. I’m allowing myself the space to plan well, to bask in the joy of discovery and delight in deciding what will put us in just the right place at just the right time. A well-tended dream leads to a great plan, and a great plan gives way to an epic adventure. | | | | | You can trek the wildest places, encounter ancient civilizations and party at the hottest bash of the year. Whatever your agenda, South America is for adventurers. | | | | | Do you fancy a Sunday stroll in Paris or a castle view? How about a sailboat tour among gorgeous Italian islands? Your travel dreams start in Europe. | | | | | The stars blaze brighter in Africa | One of my many dream trips is sailing the Nile, and I’m keen to get to Botswana to check out the Okavango Delta. | | | | | I probably think about Australia more than a lot of people (thank you Bluey), and I keep saving stories about Uluru treks and coastal towns. | | | | | Impanema Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil | | Traveling to Brazil for Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro later this month – or like, ever? You're in for a majorly good time with fabulous food, frenetic football matches, natural wonder and rhythm-filled metropolises. If you're planning a trip to Brazil, don't stress about using your mobile device. | | | Reader question: I have always wanted to sail around the Greek islands, and I’m ready to make it happen, but I don’t have a lot of time. What do you suggest? LP recommendation: Reader, me too. According to our expert, if you’re a first-timer, start with the Cyclades, beginning in Santorini. But if you’re ready to explore further afield, try the Dodecanese and venture beyond Rhodes. Here are all our suggestions for sailing the Greek islands in a week. | | | | Photography by: Rintaro Kanemoto, Olga Danylenko/Shutterstock, bepsy/Shutterstock, zainabsoly/Shutterstock, Tom Jastram /Shutterstock, PeopleImages/Getty Images | This email was sent to you by: Lonely Planet Publications Ltd. | 1101 Red Ventures Drive, Fort Mill, SC 29707 | | | |
