We’re in that time of the year when every brand you follow starts clamoring for your attention with sales! sales! sales!
It’s overwhelming. And not great for our nervous systems.
I'm staying grounded by focusing my energy on supporting the small businesses that align with my values. I know the "shop small" message is fed to us all the time but it never gets old and it's still got that razzle dazzle. Especially to the small business that you support. Every sale counts.
Shopping small feels like a super doable way for me to stay in alignment with my hope for the future. Not only do I feel calmer and inspired when I do, but I also end up with sweeter, more considered gifts for my friends and family. It’s a win-win.
I like to think of this as more than just ethical consumerism: it’s social justice. When I amplify small businesses—either by shopping with them or telling my friends about them—I also help those businesses reinvest in communities. And our collective circle of care widens. I feel like I'm part of something. And that's a feeling I really need right now.
So, with that said, here are some creative ways to gift your loved ones this season.
