Metallica Mondays returned last night with an old-school gig from a tiny club in West Hollywood on May 24, 1988. Since this was a secret warm-up gig for the Monsters of Rock tour, the band performed under the name “Frayed Ends.”
Recording of Justice had just wrapped… those songs were so fresh, they hadn’t even been mixed yet. And this crowd was in for a treat! “Harvester of Sorrow” was played for the second time ever, the first being the night before.
If you’ve caught any of the gigs coming out of The Metallica Black Box recently, you know that rare material is almost never perfect. But the raw and flawed sights and sounds can make the experience feel even cooler. This show is no exception. It was filmed on Lars’ old camcorder, and we sweetened it up from a soundboard tape featured in the Justice Deluxe Box Set. And be sure to stick around after "Blitzkrieg"... you don't want to miss the bonus we snuck in at the end.
