Congrats to Emily, our latest survey winner!
"I grew up in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan dreaming of experiencing the sakura blossoms in Japan. Making that childhood dream come true and seeing the blossoms swirl in the Meguro river of Tokyo was otherworldly⦠but the true spirit lies in the hanami, the celebration of this ephemeral beauty. Picnics that take over every park during this time: everyone together, eating, laughing, playing music. A place that brings me so much peace."

- A 4-minute video love letter to a beautiful car (and buying things for the long term).
- The world's (allegedly) 50 best bars for 2024. Solid list, but we can think of a couple they missed...
- Bullet holes in the overhead compartments β won't someone please think of the carry-ons?!

There's a deep truth to the Flaubert quote: βBe regular and orderly in your life, so that you may be violent and original in your work.β
And Mark Manson makes a strong case that pursuing boring goals results in the most creative output.
Turning up, giving yourself the right environment, and working no matter what seem to be the ingredients that give the best chance of "success", however you might define the word.

Seeing more and more ways β including this site β to book hotels on an hourly basis, especially when they'd otherwise be empty.
(...in Asia hourly booking is relatively common, though not always for G-rated purposes...)
There are already a bunch of "off-peak" hacks β first table deals, repositioning cruises, co-work hours in restaurants β but we're bullish on them becoming even more popular as businesses realise how nuts it is to spend any time empty while still paying rent.
Our wishlist: cheap temporary use of empty retail stores (common sense), better distribution of expiring food (efficient and virtuous) and empty flight seat auctions at the boarding gate (irresponsibly chaotic yet thrilling).
Any other ideas for ways to use under-utilised space or things?

Small but very awesome thing: if you manage to swim the notoriously wild gap between New Zealand's North and South islands, the local ferry service will award you free tickets - for life.
Got us thinking: what's Minaal's version of this β gear for anyone who visits every continent? Anyone who puts a million miles on a bag? Anyone who figures out why the night hawkers in Budapest are young women exclusively selling peeled carrots and nothing else?
Send us your ideas, we just might go for it...
