When you make a gift today, you will help groundbreaking projects and Explorers like: |
• National Geographic Explorer Victoria Herrmann whose project, Preserving Legacies, is safeguarding the world’s national and cultural heritage sites from the impacts of a changing planet. Victoria and her team equip local custodians with the knowledge, skills and resources to implement adaptations that can keep local legacies safe from fire, floods and other climate threats for generations to come. Her work – and Preserving Legacies’ impact – were honored at last year’s ##### with the Global Center on Adaptation’s (GCA) Local Adaptation Champion Award for Citizen Science at #####.
• National Geographic Young Explorer Soren Goldsmith who envisions a future where engineering and imagery come together to inspire conservation action. Using his engineering background, he developed custom-built, waterproof camera traps uniquely suited to capture New England’s elusive salt marshes. Now able to visualize these climate-susceptible ecosystems, communities and policymakers can work toward solutions to protect the critical, yet often overlooked, habitats.
• National Geographic Explorer Koketso “Koki” Mookodi who established a successful conservation-focused teacher-education program in the Okavango Delta of Botswana. Koki set out to develop a program that would inspire teachers, and thus their students, to take up the mantle of conservation leadership in the Delta. Educator Expeditions gets teachers involved with community elders and takes them into the field, inspiring teachers to become invested in the community and pass that enthusiasm on to their students.
