Dear Friend,
Since 1888, National Geographic Explorers have worked to help bring vulnerable species back from the brink of extinction and protect our most fragile landscapes–and caring people like you have been there with us every step of the way. Our ability to invest in our global community of scientists, conservationists, educators and storytellers relentlessly pursuing solutions to the most urgent issues on this planet depends on our Contributing Members.
Will you join the Society and become a Contributing Member with a tax-deductible gift of $35 or more?

Exploring and Protecting Our Oceans: As vast as the ocean itself, the work of our Explorers inspires us to connect with the ocean and seek solutions to protect it. As of today, we have helped establish 6.8 million square kilometers of marine protected areas through our Explorer-led programs like Pristine Seas led by National Geographic Explorer in Residence Enric Sala which has helped establish 29 of the largest marine protected areas in the world. |

Safeguarding Vulnerable Species: Our Explorers are working around the world to save threatened wildlife, safeguard critical ecosystems, and educate people to co-exist more peacefully with local animal populations. This includes individuals like Rena Effendi, a National Geographic Explorer since 2022, who underwent a three-year search for a rare butterfly species named in honor of her late father that is only found in one of the world’s most remote places: a shrinking mountain habitat between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Preserving Our Planet: Our Explorers are conducting groundbreaking research in the world’s most remote places to fill gaps in our understanding of the planet’s life-sustaining resources. We work with scientific experts, policymakers, and local communities to develop transformative solutions to our most pressing environmental challenges. This includes individuals like National Geographic Explorer Jennifer Angel-Amaya who is investigating mercury’s toxic impact on soil and water to protect the Amazon, the world’s largest rainforest, and its local communities. |
