When I ran across these Skechers Hands Free Slip-Ins, completely by chance in a shoe store, I was in the midst of a rheumatoid arthritis flare-up centered on my hands, wrists, and feet: I couldn’t pull open a kitchen drawer, button a shirt, hold a glass of water, or put on a pair of shoes that weren’t flip-flops (which, by the way, I couldn’t even comfortably walk in).
“Never have to touch your shoes again.” “Just slip in,” the sign at the store said. I thought it was a cruel joke, but begrudgingly, I put them on the ground and … slipped them on without having to touch them with my hands.
I’ve worn the same pair of these shoes constantly for the past eight months—walking my son to school and the playground, a weeklong trip to Manhattan, to and from work, and everywhere in between. Now, I’m not a podiatrist or any kind of expert on walking shoes—I just know that eight months in, I still find these shoes comfortable, they still look good, and most importantly, they’ve allowed me to leave my house and live my life.
