Beechworth born and raised, he first cut his teeth under Barry Morey at Sorrenberg before stretching out across the Mornington Peninsula and into Burgundy (five vintages deep with Benjamin Leroux). And it shows. Chardonnay might be his calling card, but the same sensitivity runs through the whole range. The wines zero in on site, drawing out the nuances of each vineyard—Macedon, Tumbarumba, Beechworth, Yarra Valley, Alpine Valleys—rather than bending them to fit a fixed idea of style. Thoughtful, restrained winemaking with tension, texture, clarity. Letting things land where they should.
