Quality has always been the foundation of David Rubanzangabo’s journey in coffee. In the early 2000s, he got his start as an agricultural technician, working with cooperatives and farmers to improve the quality of their coffee for the specialty market.
That experience led David to purchase three hectares of land, plant coffee trees, and build his own washing station. Today, David operates the Huye Mountain washing station in Rwanda's lush Huye District with a deep focus on quality, community, and a strong dedication to the network of area farmers it serves.

We had the opportunity to partner with Huye Mountain on a project to construct coffee nurseries and distribute coffee seedlings across its network of producers. So far, more than two million seedlings have been distributed—helping sustain and increase the production of the Bourbon variety.
In 2024, David proposed a project to Stumptown to support organic certification for 1,920 producers—an opportunity to reinvest in quality and expand the reach of Huye’s coffee. Organic certification is costly and complicated, the project aims to support training, the transition to organic fertilizers, and ongoing support throughout the process.

Our relationship with David began in 2012 when we purchased a small amount of Huye’s first harvest. Fourteen years later, we still get excited every time it returns to our menu.
Each season, the coffee from Huye Mountain arrives with a distinct vibrance and sweetness that we look forward to.
