If this is your first go-round with El Puente Gesha, you might be wondering what all the hype's about. Here's a little something to whet your palate: notes of sweet caramel, pineapple, and cinnamon-spiced dark chocolate.
But there's more to the story. The Gesha variety is one of the most challenging varieties to grow, thriving only under the right environment and meticulous care. Something our partners Marysabel Caballero and Moisés Herrera at El Finca Puente have in spades.
Their farming operation in the renowned coffee region Marcala is a growing collection of distinct farms—one of which, Finca El Puente, produced the first coffee we bought from them many years ago. Though it started with microlots, our businesses have truly evolved together, and Stumptown buys from El Puente for all tiers of our business—from blends and our single origin lineup.
Marysabel, a fourth-generation coffee farmer, and Moisés, a former coffee exporter turned grower, are constantly refining how they cultivate and process coffee. Their wet mill relies primarily on gravity to move coffee through the process, reducing water usage, along with drying infrastructure allows them to process and prepare coffees for export themselves. And while it's hard to imagine loving them more, their care extends far beyond the farm. Each year, they help fund the renovation of one of their workers' homes—a powerful reflection of their commitment to community.
Finca El Puente has been a beloved Stumptown offering for over 20 years—their very special and very limited Finca El Puente Gesha is just the icing on an already super sweet cake. Trust us, you don't wanna sleep on this microlot. When it's gone, it's gone.
