Hi,
I recently listened to a podcast where the host was saying he didn't really believe in Ketones, albeit he had never tried them, but the host felt there was not enough substantial science to support what Ketones claim to do.
This really struck me, as I have not only acendotally found ketones to work, but the science is also compelling.
⚡️ What is important to understand:
- Ketones are molecules your body makes when it burns fat for energy instead of carbohydrates.
- As fat is broken down in your liver, it produces ketones as a backup energy source when you have run out of carbs during an intense exercise (or if you are fasting for example)
- Your brain and muscles LOVE ketones - as ketones provide a highly efficient, steady energy supply especially for the brain which can't use fat directly
- When you supplement with ketones you are giving your body and brain fuel without a spike/crash you can get with sugar and caffeine
- RECOVERY - ketones are excellent for recovery in terms of reducing oxidative stress and inflammation
🤜 How to Use Ketones:
- Take one "shot" 15 mins or so before your workout, specifically for a workout that will be mentally challenging. This will really help you maintain your focus through tough intervals, or a speed workout.
- I personally take 2 shots if I have a workout that is over 1 hour and is going to be hard. This sort of helps get me in the right headspace to get the most out of my training.
- Mid-Workout - half way through your workout, you can take another shot if you feel like you are fading, this will give you an instant boost
- Post-Workout - I highly recommend this. Try a shot right after you workout consistently for at least 3-4 sessions and note down how your recovery is, you should feel a little less sore, a little less fatigued than normal.
