Hi,
There are so many excuses not to train in the winter, but I’m going to do my best to take some of them away.
I am constantly amazed and appreciative at all the innovations I’m being introduced to on a yearly basis that make winter time training easier for those of us who prefer to be under a blanket for three months straight.
But while heat is a major consideration for most, there are other things to keep in mind as the days get shorter and many of us will find ourselves training in the dark, or despite the cold weather, we still need to take hydration seriously.
Below are some personal favorites for the next few months of training.
High Vis Make sure you’re seen in the early morning ride or late afternoon run. The less subtle you look, the better.
• Nathan HyperNight Reflective Beanie • Nathan SaferRun Ripcord Siren and Strobe Light • Wyn Cycling Windbreaker Vest (25% off)
Staying Warm I can run in shorts and a shirt in the cold weather, but I realize I’m not like most people. And for those of you warm blooded mammals out there, here’s some hot options.
• USWE Warm Changing Robe (30% off) • Pressio Compression Socks (50% off) • Wyn Cycling Thermal Arm Warmers (25% off)
Winter Hydration Packs People often think, well, it's winter. I don’t need to hydrate as much as during the summer. Well, I hope you can hear me shaking my head in disagreement all the way from over here. The body doesn’t sense thirst as well in the cold weather, so you’ve got to be extra vigilant to not fall into the thirst trap.
• USWE Zulo Winter 2 • USWE Nordic Winter Hydration Pack 4 • USWE Hajker Pro Winter 30 (40% off)
If you pick up a few of these items, you should be ready to get out there regardless if your weather app is trying to talk you out of it. And if you happen to pass by a dude in The Feed merch and shorts, say hi. It may even be me.
