Ding ding: it’s The Hox Artist Open Call
|
Artists, makers and creators: we want YOU
|
Painters, illustrators, designers, photographers, ceramicists, sculptors: however you work, get your creative house in order because Artist Open Call 2024 is in session.
After launching in the US last year, you made it clear you wanted this thing global – so we’re thrilled to now invite artists from the US, UK and Europe, to submit work for exhibition right here at The Hox.
We’re talking a three-month residency in your local Hox Gallery space with an opening party for your nearest and dearest thrown in and a small artist grant for you, as well as 100% of sales of course (we wouldn't have it any other way).
This year, we’re opening it up to 10 cities across the world. In the US, we’re looking for talent in Williamsburg, Chicago, Portland (OR) and Los Angeles. In the UK, we want artists for Southwark, Southwark’s Working From_, and soon-to-open Edinburgh. In Europe, entry is open in Paris, Brussels, Barcelona and Rome.
Entries close 22 February 2024, and selected artists will be notified 5 March 2024. You must be over 18 to enter, and living in The Hox city you’re applying for.

Are all mediums accepted? The only requirement is that your piece must be able to live on a wall, as that’s the space we have.
What's the best price point for Hox Gallery? The sweet spot seems to sit below $/€/£500 per work.
Does Hox take a cut? Absolutely not, as mentioned above, 100% of any sale goes to you – we just host your fabulousness (and bask in the reflected glory).
When’s the closing date again? The end of the day on Thursday 22 February 2024.

If you’re thinking “Yeahhhh this might be for me," rest assured you’re in excellent company. The class of 2023 absolutely smashed it: illustrator, painter and muralist Jocelyn Tsaih brought her amorphous figures to Williamsburg (selling every single print on opening night, no less), while The Hoxton, Chicago, was lucky enough to host several beautiful multimedia pieces from members of Project Onward, a studio supporting neurodiverse artists.
Over in LA, we were treated to the talents of self-taught painter-poet Joshua Bloom, who started working with oils over lockdown in 2020 and fills his canvases with colour, philosophy, culture and his own life, while Portland’s walls were given over to skateboarder, painter and muralist Sebo Walker, who brought his signature energetic and inventive style to the party.
So come on 2024: we know you can knock it out of the park, too…

A little note on Hox Gallery
|
If you haven’t come across it yet, let us introduce you to The Hox Gallery: it’s the space we reserve in all Hoxtons for up-and-coming artists and creators from the local area. Our communities are stuffed with talent, and we love to champion emerging stars and shine a light on what makes all these neighbourhoods so uniquely brilliant. And we figure if we love them, everyone else will too.
