In this email, I wanted to explain why we avoid certain inflammatory ingredients and recommend you do the same.
❌ Peas, legumes & potato
Since 2018, the FDA has investigated pet foods containing peas, lentils, other legumes and potatoes due to their link to dilated cardiomyopathy—a fatal heart disease in dogs.
Each of these ingredients are also high in antinutrients including lectins, which are a plant's defense mechanism designed to keep predators away by causing an inflammatory reaction.
❌ Meat meals
While some larger pet food brands claim meat meals are a source of "highly digestible protein"—meat meals are highly inflammatory ingredients due to the industrial processing methods used to make them.
Processed at high temperatures, the fats in meat meals become oxidized, which means they carry inflammatory "free radicals" that destroy cells in your dog's body.
❌ Vegetable oils
Canola oil, sunflower oil and safflower oil are industrially processed at high heat, also leading to the creation of free radicals.
A 2018 clinical study confirmed that the free radicals in these oils causes colon and liver damage.[*]
That's why we use anti-inflammatory coconut oil in Perfect Kibble instead.
Are these ingredients in your dog's food?
Take a look at the ingredients label to see if your dog's food contains any of these inflammatory ingredients.
If you see them on there, it isn't too late to remove them from your dog's diet and reduce their health risks.
