Hi Pet parent,
Do you know what IVDD is?
If the answer is NO... let's talk about it:
Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) is a degenerative disease that can affect your dog's spinal cord and cause a range of painful mobility issues.
It is most commonly caused by jumping off elevated surfaces such as couches and beds.
Yes, the simple thing we teach our dogs to do when they're puppies, is actually hurting them.
Bad jumping habits like this can very well lead to permanent damage, and temporary solutions such as wheelchairs are used for dogs who suffer from the most common result of this disease... paralysis.
But you probably haven't seen that many dogs in wheelchairs, so this must be rare, right?
While paralysis may be uncommon, if you have ever had an older dog that walked with a limp, or had shaky legs and thought, "Well, it's just age", that is a sign of back and joint damage.
Some breeds are more at-risk back from joint damage than others.
Does your dog belong to one of the top 10 breeds exposed to IVDD?
