A study published in Nature Aging in February took nearly 800 healthy people aged 70 and over in Switzerland to analyze the effects of Omega 3 supplementation on the aging process.
Participants who took 1 gram of algae-based omega-3 per day for three years were found to have aged three months less than others in the trial, based on biological markers (epigenetic clocks).
Epigenetic clocks measure DNA methylation, chemical modifications that build up on DNA and reflect the biological rather than the chronological age of the tissue.
Even more, the same trial has reported further positive effects of omega-3 - specifically that the combination of omega-3, vitamin D and 30 minutes of exercise 3x per week reduced invasive cancers by 61%.
Epigenetic clocks are not a perfect measure of age and this study was only done on heathy people aged 70+, nevertheless - generally impressive results!
