Brooklyn Reads: Marsha with Tourmaline and Phoebe Robinson
Thursday, May 22, 7–10 pm
Celebrate the legacy of Black transgender activist Marsha P. Johnson with author and artist Tourmaline, whose debut book is also the first definitive biography of Johnson as both an activist and artist.
The evening opens with a performance by Egyptt LaBeija, Overall Godmother of the House of LaBeija. After a reading, Tourmaline is joined in conversation by Phoebe Robinson, a bestselling author, actor, producer, and founder of Tiny Reparations Books.
Film: Paint Me a Road out of Here
Saturday, May 31, 2–4 pm
Catch a matinee screening of the new documentary Paint Me a Road out of Here, centered on Faith Ringgold’s artwork For the Women’s House. The screening is followed by a talkback with Baxter and filmmaker Cat Gund, moderated by Catherine Morris, Sackler Senior Curator, Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art.

Honor Earth Day by receiving ear acupuncture and engaging with the power of plants with educators from Herban Cura. Certified specialists will offer 5-Point ear acupuncture, developed in the 1980s by activists in the Young Lords, Black Liberation Army, and Black Panthers based on traditional Chinese medicine. 🌱
Brooklyn Poetry Slam
Thursday, April 24, 7–9 pmAmplify the voices of Brooklyn at this pay-what-you-can slam, presented by poets and cofounders Mahogany L. Browne and DJ Jive Poetic. Come to listen to poets, or arrive early to sign up if you’d like to join the slam. Online registration is no longer available, but a limited number of tickets will be available at the door. Admission is subject to our capacity at the time of your arrival. 🎤
