Your body might be ready for sleep when you crawl into bed, but your mind doesnβt always get the memo. And the more you try to force sleep, the further it slips away. Itβs the paradox of sleep (and itβs super frustrating.)
The trick is to give your mind something gentle to focus on, so it doesnβt spiral. Think counting sheep β but without the sheep. Unless you like sheep, in which case, you do you!
The next time you canβt sleep, try: | π | Cognitive shuffling β Pick a word and think of a new word for each letter. Rinse and repeat. |
| π | Sleep counting β Count back from 1,000. We bet you donβt get past the 700s before youβre snoring. |
| π | Slow breathing β Inhale for 4, exhale for 6. Longer exhales help signal to your body that itβs time to wind down. |
