Long ago, when I led training teams, I would spend my days at the back of classrooms. I’d watch the reactions of participants change in concert with how a trainer would project, intonate, and interact. Often, the same words delivered in a less engaging way simply failed to captivate. Mehrabian’s “7-38-55 Rule” for personal communication asserts that words only account for 7% of information transmitted. In an increasingly remote world, how do we make up for the lack of tone and body language that usually makes up the rest? In short: we embed acts of kindness in our docs, comments, reactions, and modes of collaboration. I hope kindness towards colleagues makes it to the top of your "to do" list this month, and encourage you to read this guide for some inspiration on "how."
