"The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has canceled plans to introduce new rules designed to limit the ability of US data brokers to sell sensitive information about Americans, including financial data, credit history, and Social Security numbers," report Dell Cameron and Dhruv Mehrotra.
The acting director of CFPB "'is undoing years of painstaking, bipartisan work in order to prop up data brokers' predatory, and profitable, surveillance of Americans,' says Sean Vitka, executive director of Demand Progress, a nonprofit that supported the rule."

"Don't expect to learn about a data breach until months later," says Dieter Holger. "The average time companies or organizations take to report data breaches is around four months following an attack, but the waiting period can often stretch months longer depending on the complexity of the breach and how prepared companies are.” This information comes from "an analysis by research firm Comparitech, which reviewed more than 2,600 ransomware attacks in the U.S. since 2018."
- Coinbase Faces Lawsuit Over Alleged Breaches of Illinois Biometric Privacy Law [cointelegraph.com]
Martin Young reports that a "group of Coinbase users from Illinois have filed a class-action lawsuit against the crypto exchange, alleging that its identity checks violate the state’s Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA)," claiming "that Coinbase’s 'wholesale collection' of faceprints for its Know Your Customer requirements violates BIPA, as they weren’t notified."
