- Social Media Companies Make Significant Child Privacy and Safety Changes as a Result of Legislation: New Report [lse.ac.uk]
A new report out of the UK found that Meta, Google, TikTok and Snap have made 128 changes related to child safety and privacy between 2017-2024.
Despite this progress, "the report reveals companies are significantly relying on tools such as parental controls in response to legislation and regulation." With that in mind, "the researchers have outlined eleven recommendations to improve child safety legislation and regulations and ensure children are better protected online."

- Mortgage Brokers Sent People’s Estimated Credit, Address, and Veteran Status to Facebook [themarkup.org]
"The Markup tested more than 700 websites that offer loans for people looking to purchase or refinance a home, from major online brokers to lesser-known regional lenders, and found that more than 200 of them share some amount of user data with Facebook," report Colin Lecher and Ross Teixeira. "The Markup’s reporting on the Meta Pixel suggested that regulators might want to examine how mortgage companies are also using the tool."
- Dell Data Breach Impacts 49 Million Customers [cpomagazine.com]
Dell notified customers of a data breach "that exposed their personal information via a poorly protected application programming interface (API)." While Dell did announce the breach that impacted 49 million customers, Alicia Hope reports that it was a "downplayed assessment" and potential impacts "underscores the need for greater transparency."
