If you’re looking for a breezy, one-night-stand of a book to escape into this weekend, try Hardly Strangers, the latest offering from 831 Stories. With a nod to Before Sunrise, the story unfolds over the course of a single night, acerbic banter included. If you’re not in the mood for romance, but know someone who is, I suggest pairing the book with some world-building merch and checking their holiday gift off your list. -VvP

We’ve recommended New York cannabis brand Off hours before, but their special edition #010 Jelly RNTZ “PINK” live rosin gummies require me to double down. These 10mg bursts of strawberry açai and coconut are dangerously delicious and make for a very energetic, fun high. If you find them in a dispensary, grab them immediately. -DW

It feels a little off brand, Gossamer-wise, to recommend a TV show that’s streaming on Peacock, and yet I really haven’t seen much chatter about Day of the Jackal. A remake of the 1973 thriller and book of the same name (and, yes, also the 1997 version featuring Richard Gere), it stars Eddie Redmayne as the titular assassin—surprisingly good as a cold-hearted killer!—and takes place across Germany, Spain, France, Estonia, Northern Ireland, and the U.K. I should flag that there are three episodes to go, so I suppose the whole thing could still go off the rails, but so far, so good. -VvP

I’m generally very much against of-the-moment water bottles (see: Stanley Cups; Hydroflask; Swells; limited edition Nalgenes), so the fact that I’m here, about to sing the praises of my Owala FreeSip Bottle is really something. Owala won me over the same way people fall in love, a little bit at a time and then all at once. Friend by friend, I started seeing Owalas everywhere. And friend by friend, they all universally applauded them. I couldn’t understand it. Also, I really don’t enjoy drinking out of a straw. And then, when I lost my last free-to-me branded water bottle, I bit the bullet. My Owala is perfect. I opted for the 32 ounce size—not too big, not too small—and am embarrassed to admit how long it took me to choose a color scheme. (Water in the Desert, in case you’re wondering.) The drinking spout gives you two options, a straw and a larger opening for chugging, and both deeply, deeply satisfying. I don’t know how else to say it, I’ve just never enjoyed drinking from anything more! If you already have a water bottle or portable drinking vessel of your choice, please don’t buy a new one. But if you’re in need, make it an Owala. -VvP

Who knew innovation in puzzles was still possible? My son recently became obsessed with this Italian puzzle brand whose animal-shaped pieces combined together to form a larger image, but can also be mounted individually on little included stands. And while he’s still at an age where he’ll happily do the same puzzle over and over again, the dual function has kept his attention in a different way. If you’ve got a kid in your life in one form or another, these make a great gift for the upcoming holiday season. -DW
