We know we should love all of our emails equally, but High Praise has always unquestionably been our favorite. As a small gesture of thanks for our dedicated Saturday readers, whether you’re brand new or have been here since our Mailchimp days, please use ############ for 15% off sitewide. You can (re)visit the archives, try something new, or just stock up. The code expires Sunday night, but our appreciation for you never does.

A quick reminder that Case Sensitive, a new conference focused on the future of print magazines, is happening on Saturday, September 13th at WSA New York. Speakers include Caitlin Thompson of Racquet, Cake Zine’s Aliza Arbanel, and retail experts like magCulture’s Jeremy Leslie and Casa’s Hemal Sheth. (I’ll also be on a panel about brand-led publications, alongside Untapped’s Tiffany Jow and others.) If you’re a current or aspiring publisher or at all interested in the printing, retail, or community-building aspects of magazines, you should definitely consider getting an early bird ticket. I know that just a few weeks ago I said we should all pivot to radio, but print really is back.

My wife and I (and son and dog, too) recently came across Umamade in Biarritz. Having not eaten yet that day, we were desperately looking for food when my wife paused our quest for a long, long chat with Uma Labattut, the artist behind these textile gems. Despite my growing hanger, I was very much charmed by these fun handmade shirts and linens, as well as Uma’s use of materials like recycled bedsheets. We ended up leaving with a shirt and a promise to have her make some hand towels featuring our dog, Gumbo.

Speaking of my dog, for our travels in France, I knew I would need some kind of carrying bag that would both pass muster with French officials (should there be an issue) and Gumbo’s comfort. Enter Dog & Co.’s City Carrier Dog Bag. This obviously won’t fly on airplanes, but for the Metro (or subway), it’s perfect for obeying the laws and protecting the paws. I’ve tried other generic tote bags over the years to mixed results, but this is the first one that genuinely feels like it’s designed for this very specific task. I feared I’d look absurd carrying Gumbo in it (and maybe I do), but I've gotten countless compliments on it—and him. It’s definitely a splurge, but turned out to be a good one.
