Back in December, we wrote to you about the hemp ban looming over this industry. Snuck into a funding bill at the last minute and without public debate, the provision would block almost all of the products and limit access for millions of Americans on November 12. At the time, there wasn’t a whole lot the public could do. Since then, Rose Los Angeles and a coalition of brands and industry leaders have been working tirelessly to put together a functional federal framework that would make cannabis safe and accessible for consumers, as well as viable for the small businesses trying to do things the right way. They’ve paid out of pocket to work with a real-deal legal team to draft the legislation, and now need your help to get this all the way to the floor. Courtney Moran helped legalize hemp back in 2018, while Patrick Goggin has been winning these fights since the early 2000s. If you have been looking for a way to ensure continued access to your favorite products, and can spare a little extra change, the team—and this industry—could use your support. First of all, I shouldn’t even need to convince you to read this. That amazing headline should be good enough to get your click. But if you still need a little nudge, this Longreads piece is about the most stolen food in the world— cheese—and a legendary 2024 heist that saw $400,000 worth of Neal’s Yard cheddar disappear. Now click. -DW

As a die-hard fan, my algorithm is finely tuned to show me the best of Knicks-related content following every game. And without fail, every time l opened Instagram atter a win or a loss, I’d come across a post from @itshannahsview. The videos were all strikingly similar: a man doing his most animated play-by-play calls for a disabled woman on a couch somewhere unknown. I would often stop to watch these in full, not knowing the full context of what exactly I was viewing, but drawn in nevertheless. It wasn’t until last month when I saw this ESPN segment on the man, Mitch Widmeier, and his sister, Hannah, that I understood just how special these videos —and these siblings—are. You don’t have to love the Knicks or even like basketball to watch, and you certainly don’t need to be anything but human to be touched by it. -DW

Bring the heat this summer with Edie Parker’s Bangle Bong. Looks equally as good on your coffee table and in a beach house Airbnb for a week. -DW

I’ve been breathlessly following the story of Hillary Dawa, the sherpa who survived six days on Everest without food, water, or oxygen after being left for dead on May 29th. Dawa was found Thursday morning suffering from frostbite and exhaustion, having crawled his way down more than 7,000 feet—a truly superhuman feat. News of his survival led me to more of Outside’s coverage of this season’s summit attempts, where I was reminded, yet again, what a treasure trove of incredible adventure reporting they are. Outside released a Best Of compilation book back in 1998, but I’m ready for a refresh. In the meantime, you’d do well to peruse their digital compendium, which includes this new-to-me story about the attempt to recover a body from the largest underwater cave in the world. I was tempted to keep this collection to myself in order to parcel out favorites in future High Praises, but it’s too good of a resource not to share. -VvP
