We know some of our ancient relatives: Homo erectus, Neanderthals and Denisovans. But are there more? When you think about how long these few known ancestors lived and how little they left behind, the idea of even more missing relatives suddenly seems... reasonable.
For nearly two million years, most hominins lived as hunter-gatherers. If they never climbed higher on the tech tree, entire species could have lived, adapted and then vanished without leaving a single trace. Biology and then geology could have erased any evidence of their existence!
